Why I Don’t Keep Galleries Up Forever — And a Beautiful New Solution

Since starting my photography business in 2014, I’ve had so many wonderful clients come back years later asking, “Hey, can I get access to my gallery again?” I totally get it—life gets busy. We forget to download those special photos, or we lose track of where we stored them. Sometimes we lose access completely. There are a lot of ways pictures can slip through the cracks.

Here’s the thing: online galleries don’t stay up forever. I pay for digital storage, and once a gallery is well past its closure date (which I always share ahead of time), I have to remove it to free up space. That doesn’t always mean your images are gone—I might still have them backed up. No promises, but in many cases, I do.

Earlier this year, I looked into branded flash drives, but they weren’t quite what I was looking for—too pricey, too generic, and I’d have to order a massive quantity. I’m not at the price point yet where I can include them in every package, and honestly, I wanted something more meaningful.

Then recently, a wedding client reached out—her wedding was over a year ago. I had already extended her gallery access a few times, but once the holiday season hit (my busiest time of the year), I had to clear out older galleries to make space. Her laptop crashed with all her images on it!!!!!!!

That request pushed me to finally find something I do love: a beautiful, engraved wood box with a USB and C Flash Drive inside that can be custom made to order. This is the kind of keepsake I’ve been wanting to offer—something tangible, timeless, and personal.

So now, I’m excited to offer these custom photo boxes as an optional add-on for clients who want a lasting way to keep their images safe. It’s a gorgeous solution that doesn’t rely on links that eventually expire or devices that run out of space—because, let’s face it, we’re all dealing with limited storage, on both sides.

This is recommended for Wedding clients and milestone events with big important galleries that take a lot of space, or anyone that doesn’t want to worry about where their images are.
