If you’re visiting from out of town, you probably don’t know the beach, the best place to propose, when to do it, or how to pull off the surprise without giving it away. That’s where my experience comes in.

Why Clearwater Beach?

Clearwater Beach is a beautiful place to propose, especially around sunset. The Gulf, white sand and evening light give you an incredible backdrop without needing to overcomplicate things.

And once you get that YES, we’re not done.

I’ll photograph the excitement, then we’ll take photos of the two of you and include family or friends if they’re part of the surprise. I’ll direct you through the portraits so you don’t have to wonder what to do, while also looking for those candid moments happening naturally.

You get the beautiful, traditional photos you want and the real moments that happen in between.

One Tip From a Photographer: Skip Pier 60

I’ve photographed proposals at Pier 60, and I’ll absolutely do it if that’s where you want to propose. But I don’t recommend it.

It’s crowded, which can make it difficult to get the clean, beautiful proposal photos you probably have in mind. And unfortunately, people don’t always respect the moment.

This is THE LOCATION in Tampa Bay for sad, twice-divorced men to yell “DON’T DO IT!” during proposals.

Talk about killing the vibe. 😂

There are much better spots along Clearwater Beach where we can have a little more space and actually focus on the two of you.

That’s one of the benefits of having a local photographer help you plan this. You don’t just get someone to take the photos — you get someone who knows what locations actually work.

Our Dream Proposal: Get on a Boat

Want to make your Clearwater Beach proposal even more memorable? Get on a boat.

Plan your proposal during a sunset cruise, charter a sailboat, or make an entire evening of it with a dinner cruise. A dinner cruise can be a whole experience — dinner, dancing, sunset views and plenty of time to celebrate after the proposal.

A boat proposal also gives you a completely different setting from the crowded beach. You get the sunset, the water, and the two of you enjoying the moment together — and I can be there to photograph it all.

One thing we don’t recommend? A booze cruise.

We’ve photographed on the Calypso, and while it can be fun, it’s more of a “let’s go get drunk on a boat” experience than what we’d choose for a romantic proposal.

Tropics is a little better, but we’d save that for another night. We’d still choose a sunset cruise, sailboat or dinner cruise for a proposal.

For a luxury experience, get an elegant sailboat… or a yacht!

What If It Rains?

For a full day of rain, one of our favorite backup options for Tampa Bay proposals is moving the plan indoors — to your hotel or resort, a museum, or another interesting location.

Clearwater Beach is different. It’s primarily a beach destination, so there aren’t many comparable indoor or covered options right there like there are in downtown St. Pete.

That’s why weather is something we talk about ahead of time. We’ll watch the forecast together and make the best decision for your proposal rather than waiting until the last minute and hoping for the best.

Having a backup plan is a big part of how we run our business. It’s one of the reasons we rarely have to cancel a proposal or refund a retainer because of weather. We don’t just hope the weather cooperates — we plan for what we’ll do if it doesn’t.

And we’re flexible. If the weather isn’t cooperating and we’re available to move your session to another day, we’ll do it.

We’d much rather work with you to find a better day than have you trying to propose in miserable weather.

Just received the most incredible photos from Xina! She captured my beach yoga class so BEAUTIFULLY—the colors of the sky and ocean stood out in such a powerful way and truly elevated our presence. Xina took our engagement photos in Clearwaters, on the beach, during sunset, and it went so well ! Xina did an excellent job photographing our baby girl for her 1/2 birthday! We had family portraits taken with her at The Vinoy in the tea garden which was a perfect location! Xina was very professional and knew exactly where we should pose to get the best results. She even sang silly songs to our baby to get her to look at her and it worked!

We were so impressed with the quality of the photos we received. They came out better than we expected and will be treasured forever! We are going to have to get some of them printed to hang up in our home. They are worth every penny! We can’t recommend Xina enough for any of your professional photography needs.
